Tour Details

Thingvellir

Thingvellir is the first stop on the golden circle afternoon & northern lights tour. Thingvellir is one of the most unusual places in the world. Over thousands of years, the geological movements have formed what is now the land of the national park. An ancient glacier warmed up, a rift between the tectonic plates has been opened, a volcano extinct. All of this makes the incredible character of the landscape of this region. Nature is luxuriant, some flamboyant colors contrast with the dark ground.

Wildlife in the park is also very rich. World’s oldest existing parliament established in 930 is also in Thingvellir. At the south of the park is the lake Thingvallavatn. It is the largest natural lake in Iceland. Because of the peculiarity of the ground, the lake ecosystem is particularly abundant with flora and fauna extremely diversified. Since 2004 Thingvellir is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and it is considered to be a national treasure.

Geysir & Strokkur

Two perfect examples of the raw power of Icelandic nature. Geysir, a geothermal field located in the southern part, is a set combining hot springs, a dome, and a volcanic cone, which are the remains of an old volcano. Geysir may shoot a column of boiling water in the air, up to 70 meters. However, its eruptions are not frequent. However, Strokkur is extremely active and never stops. Every 5 or 10 minutes, hot water rises up from it and could reach 30 meters up. Its power as much as its regularity always impress the visitors. Pools of boiling mud that are located in the geothermal field are also a curiosity not to be missed.

Gullfoss

The waterfall of Gullfoss also known as the golden waterfall due to the rainbows that offer golden colors above the gorges on days with a good weather.  You will let yourself be taken away with the powerful and incessant sounds of the waterfall. The Gullfoss site is a true natural treasure, a symbol of the delicate and wild Icelandic landscapes, an unforgettable vision.

The Northern Lights

The Golden Circle Afternoon & Northern Lights ends with a northern lights hunt. The northern lights are an explosion of colors in the dark night, a striking phenomenon of beauty, a magical memory to bring back in your luggage. Who has never dreamt of attending this enchanting show led by mother nature in the Northern Sky?

In scientific terms, northern lights – or aurora borealis – are caused by cosmic rays, solar wind and magnetospheric plasma interacting with the upper atmosphere. But after all, this explanation does not matter when you attend, completely amazed, at this dazzling show of beauty. The pulsating colors – from green to blue, sometimes red or yellow – split the darkness of the night and give off a bright light sometimes stronger than the moon. The shifting and changing shapes create one of the finest show of the sky and of nature.

Iceland is among the best destinations in the world, to become a lucky observer of this natural event.

From September to April, when the sky is clear, we will go hunting this unpredictable and unique phenomenon, far away from the city lights, looking for the best possible point of observation. One of the advantages of our tour by Super Jeep in a small group is the possibility to adapt our itinerary according to the area and activity of the northern lights.

For this tour, we recommend to wear warm clothes and shoes and also to take your camera and tripod.

Do not hesitate to take the plunge and join our tour: the northern lights will be for sure the peak of your stay in Icelandic lands.

Note: The Northern Lights Tour is dependent on weather and sky conditions. Sightings can not be guaranteed. A decision is taken daily whether the tour will be operated or not. If you made a booking, we will contact you to let you know if the tour is postponed or canceled due to bad weather, heavy clouds or low solar activity.

  2. Epic!

My first trip to Iceland and our golden circle tour was truly something special! Really enjoyed all the locations. Unfortunately the northernlights did not show up on our tour but other than that highly recommend this tour 🙂
