Tour Description – Golden Circle & Caving

The Golden circle & caving tour starts with a visit to the world under a lava field where you get the chance to witness how the volcanoes created Iceland. Depending on the season we either visit Gjábakkahellir (Gjabakkahellir) or Leiðarendi (Leidarendi) cave. This is an amazing hike through an ancient underground lava tube. After the hike, we drive onwards to Gullfoss (the Golden waterfall), the undisputed queen of Icelandic waterfalls.

Gullfoss is truly a great sight with water rushing down three steps of lava layers exhibiting breathtaking power and grandeur. After a short lunch stop, we head to the geothermal area of Geysir, home of the erupting hot spring. Come and watch the heated water gurgle, bubble, and escape the ground with enormous force up to 25 meters high. Our last stop will be the famous Þingvellir National Park (en. Parliament Fields).

Þingvellir is a UNESCO world heritage site and the original birthplace of the oldest existing parliament in the world. It is also the place where the tectonic plates of America and Europe meet with a clearly visible rift valley. We will learn about the Vikings and their meetings here as well as the geological forces of nature From the national park. After going through all of these must see’s of Iceland, we have a short drive back to Reykjavík.

This day tour has it all; stunning natural beauty, interesting history, amazing geological wonders and a great caving adventure!

  1. Must see the golden circle when in iceland

We were contemplating doing this tour or snorkeling + golden circle. I was really glad we chose this as the whole day was really fun and I wouldn’t want to have missed the lava caving aspect of it!
I will have to try snorkeling next time! it looked interesting.
The inital booking process was nice and easy. The guide was very informative and obv really liked his job, you could tell. Great experience all in all.

  2. Perfect trip!

I had a quick stop in iceland and only had time for 1 tour. I chose this tour and I am soo happy about my decision. This was truly one of the most beautiful experience of my life to date.

I have no other tours to compare to, but you MUST try this!

  3. Awesome Golden circle and caving tour

The golden circle was as beautiful as described! The power in gullfoss waterfall was unbelievable. The guide was great and told us all about the first parliament and Pingvellir in general.
The lava caving was also a great experience, I thought it would be more extreme but nonetheless it was very fun. Great for all ages and fitness levels. 🙂
