The day begins at Perlan (pickup not included) where you will live a truly unique experience at the Wonders of Iceland exhibition, through ground-breaking technology, science, photography, and design. Perlan’s spectacles include a real ice cave (100-meter long) and an interactive glacier exhibition. There is also an immersive Forces of Nature show, 10-meter high Látrabjarg Cliff with lifelike seabirds and virtual reality entertainment, a virtual aquarium and more. Perlan, one of Reykjavík‘s most iconic buildings, stands upon the capital‘s highest hill. The 360° Viewing Deck is excellent, with picture panels and geological samples from around Reykjavík. At Perlan, you experience and learn to understand the Wonders of Iceland.
You will then be picked up by our BusTravel Iceland bus outside Perlan between 10.30 and 11.00 for the Golden Circle Afternoon tour. On this tour, you will visit the most renowned natural pearls of the Southwest of Iceland in a single afternoon. In the Geysir geothermal area, we get the chance to observe the boiling hot spring Strokkur spout steaming water up to 30 meters into the air every 8 minutes.
The iconic waterfall of Gullfoss, or Golden Falls, is only a 7-minute drive from Geysir – located in the glacial river Hvítá. Its elegant and majestic form is like no other, where the torrential river water plummets in two steps down into a 32 meters deep canyon.
Kerið Volcanic Crater is a unique site with its collapsed magma chamber now filled with milky turquoise waters. Walk around the edge of the crater and embrace the Icelandic landscape or walk down to the lake’s shore and admire the vivid colors of this natural beauty.
(Please note that Kerid won’t be part of the itinerary from Sept. 1st)
Þingvellir National Park is not only a site of geological wonder, located on the intersection of the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates but also a place charged with history, as the site of the national parliament since 930. Þingvellir tells stories of geographical and political struggles, compromises and ongoing evolution. Þingvellir was accepted on the UNESCO World Heritage list for its cultural values in 2004.
