The vast expanse of Iceland’s southern coastal plain, sandwiches snow-capped glaciers and the sea and crisscrossed by some of the country’s most powerful rivers, is the subject of this option-packed tour. First stop is Urriðafoss, the most voluminous waterfall in the country. The second stop is the waterfall Seljalandsfoss, set against the backdrop of Eyjafjallajökull glacier.
We visit Eyjafjallajökull visitor center before continuing to the waterfall Skógarfoss and Folk Museum at Skógar. One of the most interesting of its kind in Iceland, the museum building is roofed with turf in the traditional way. We visit Dyrhólaey and Reynisfjara – The black beach. Depending on time on our way back, we might have an extra stop or two.
We recommend to add a visit to The LAVA – Iceland Volcano and Earthquake Centre, an interactive display of nature’s epic forces that shape our planet and created Iceland. Examine the various volcanos, eruptions and lava flows, volcanic and rift systems, faults and glacial floods that make Iceland a showcase of volcanism. The center introduces the Katla Geopark plus Iceland’s elaborate monitoring system for surveying volcanos and earthquake zones.
