South and East Iceland enjoy the most popular whole year around. These areas offer easily accessible natural sights as well as the variety of winter activities. If you want to explore the diversity of Icelandic nature and culture you should without a doubt visit those areas. Those areas are magical during the dark winter months where (if lucky!) the Northern Lights will light up the skies.
Day 1: Arrival and South Iceland
Start the road trip right away! If time allows, it’s recommended to make a stop at the Blue Lagoon from the airport before driving to your accommodation in Selfoss.
Overnight: Selfoss area

Highlights: Blue Lagoon, Hveragerði.
Day 2: Southern Iceland with a glimpse of glaciers and waterfalls
Today is all about the well-known South Coast of Iceland, with its black sand beach, two amazing waterfalls and the Southernmost village in Iceland, Vík and much more!
Overnight: Kirkjubæjaklaustur area

Highlights: Urriðafoss waterfall, Skógafoss waterfall, Sólheimajökull Glacier, Sólheimasandur Plane Wreck, Dyrhólaey Arch, Reynisfjara black sand beach, Vík.
Day 3: Majestic Vatnajökull National Park and Glacier Lagoon
A full day of stunning sight including Jökulsárlón, Iceland’s most famous and much photographed glacial lagoon, waterfalls, lava formation, and glaciers!
Overnight: Vik area

Day 4: South Coast & Golden Circle
Drive through the southern farmlands to the direction of the Golden Circle. Along the way, there are three waterfalls worth visiting; Seljalandsfoss, Gljúfrabúi, and Faxi waterfalls. Next up visit the famous Golden Circle, the powerful Gullfoss waterfall and the 100 years old Geysir before heading to your accommodation of the night.

Day 5: Þingvellir National Park and Lava Waterfall Overnight Borgarfjörður
Visit the UNESCO World Heritage national park Þingvellir. Continue west to Borgarfjörður and check out the most unique waterfalls in Iceland, Hraunfossar, Barnafoss and see another geothermal hot spring, Deildartunguhver.
