Tour Description

Come with the trolls to discover the amazing sights of Silfra glacial fissure in the world’s clearest waters one of the major wonders to be found in Iceland.

You will begin this tour at our meeting point at Thingvellir National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Once you are there, you will take a short journey through the volcanic, moss-laden fields of the park. Here, you will listen as your friendly and experienced PADI Divemaster guide provides a safety briefing. Later, you will receive all of the necessary equipment for snorkeling in Silfra, including a thermal undersuit, a drysuit, neoprene hoods and gloves, and, of course, a mask, snorkel and fins. This equipment will keep you buoyant throughout your time in the fissure, as well as offering protection against the glacial water.

Once in the water, your eyes will meet the incredible shades of blue so prevalent in the fissure, as well as the natural under-water flora canyon walls. As you are swimming you will have the opportunity to move across continents, as you will be switching back and forth from both the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates, which is one of Thingvellir’s most famous characteristics. Swimming further, you will meet Silfra Hall, which is the widest section on the fissure and the majestic Silfra Cathedral, its deepest section. Even more, the stunning shallow oasis will be presented before your eyes at the end, “Real Blue Lagoon”.

Upon exiting the water, you’ll be invited to warm up hot chocolate and cookies with your friendly guides while having a nice chat. Then, after the tour is over you will receive the photos in your email to remember all the happy memories created with old and new friends.

  1. The *free* pics and guides MAKE this tour!

We booked this tour on the afternoon of our first day in Iceland for 9am the following morning. There were still a few spots open even with the late booking and the followup from Troll expeditions was pretty immediate! They gave great instructions in order to find the correct meetup location and how to dress. Upon arrival, they patiently suited up everyone (another reason we were so happy they offer smaller group sizes as this is not a quick process!) and then they split the 8 people into two groups of 4. My group’s guide was Cordelia. She is warm, easygoing, and funny! She was very thorough and enthusiastic as she explained what we could expect on the tour and sprinkled in some hilarious experiences of her own. This tour was breathtaking and a once in a lifetime kind of experience-this makes it all the more worth it that they include pictures for FREE! We had the pics back to us same day even (earlier than quoted on site!). At the end of the tour, we received hot cocoa and cookies and our group of 4 lingered because Cordelia had such great stories, recommendations, and information that she passed on. We are already looking into another Troll expedition while on our trip 🙂

  2. Cold Silfra water heated by warm care from our great tour guide. Love it!

I went to Iceland in a group of 9 with friends from Hong Kong and stayed last 2 weeks. Then we joined the trip of Snorkeling in Silfra and met our excellent tour guide, Christina.
Christina gave me a very good first impression during introduction. She was funny and detail-oriented at the same time as she could give us a detailed explanation of the trip with making jokes. She also took care of us very well.
I had never tried snorkeling before and this was my first time to try it. I had not been swimming for quite a long period and found myself difficult to swim in a heavy suit. Whenever I think I need help and feel helpless as i cannot ask for help directly in water, Christina would come to help me at once without hesitation. She saved me several times in the whole trip. This was really impressive and I would like to think her once again here. I think this would be one of the most unforgettable experience in my life ever.
    Sincerely thanks, Christina:)

  3. Super unique experiences, highly recommended!

Snorkeling between the American and Eurasian tectonic plates was incredible. The water is so clear (and delicious!). Kate was a great guide that helped us at every step along the way. If you have an opportunity to fit this into your schedule, do it!

  4. Amazing Experience!!!

Everyone should do this while in Iceland! Our guide, Cordelia was so kind and walked us through step by step on how to get into the gear. She also has so many good tips that we’re helpful along the way! Cordelia did such a great job of running the tour, and made it an amazing experience for us! She was very patient with each of us and double checked our gear before getting into the water. She also took so many pictures, which was very sweet! Not to mention, they provide you with hot chocolate and cookies afterwards to warm up! I would definitely recommend this tour! 🙂
