"Wow Amazing Must do Excursion"

Picked up by Gulfoss waterfall car park as agreed . The coach a massive 8 wheeler took us to base camp in the glacier through fabulous scenery . On arrival Dressed with full safety equipment then outside for a short safety briefing and driving instructions. Started up engine and off in a procession with a guide in front and at the rear to ensure no one got lost . Stopped a couple of times to take in breathtaking views and photos. The guides were polite and helpful and offered to take our cameras to photograph us . At times the speed at which we travelled unnerved my wife and I a little but that could just be us. If I go to Iceland again I would do this again . Incredible scenery and waterfall and a thrilling way to discover it

"You absolutely have to try this"

This is an absolute must-try at Iceland, and well worth every cent we paid. I mean riding a snowmobile in and of itself is already pretty damn kickass...to be able to explore ice caves at the same time is just incredible.

"Thrilling Experience"

THIS WAS THE MOST AMAZING EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE SO FAR! Riding a snowmobile on a glacier with a beautiful sunshine and my best friend! I felt so alive, free and happy! It was the highlight of my trip to Iceland. Our guide was very funny, helpful, polite, and we were with only another couple so we felt privileged. The car was humongous (and thank god! Cause we had to drive up to the glacier with it!) and very comfortable. We enjoyed the Golden Circle attractions a lot and strongly recommend to see those with a guide and this one in particular!

"Into and Above the Glacier"

WE LOVED THIS TOUR! Snowmobiling on the glacier was by far the highlight of our entire trip. We would plan a whole second trip to Iceland just to do that again. It was expensive, but SO worth it! We had never been on a snowmobile before, but we had great guides and were able to pick it up quickly. We were lucky that it cleared up on our way back from the ice cave. We were able to get some incredible views of the glacier on the snowmobile ride back to the little hut where you get your snowsuit and helmet. It's a very bumpy ride to the glacier! If you have motion sickness, take something to help with that. The ice cave was so cool. Seriously this tour was the best part of the trip!

To say that I have no expierence in the snow or ice would be the understatement of the century (lived in SD my whole life), but I had so much fun where I didn’t think I would. This operation and trip blew my mind. I had such a carefree free spirited ride. You can’t help but enjoy riding hellbent of a glacier with the sound of your maniacal laughter following you. The only disappointment...is that it had to end. On three words: Treat yo’ self

Frequently asked questions

All you need to know about snowmobile tours in Iceland

Yes, you’ll need a valid international driving permit to operate a snowmobile in Iceland.

No, a regular driver’s license plus your international driving permit is enough!

Nope! A valid international driving permit and a spirit of adventure are all you need. Before you set out, your guide will show you how the controls work and make sure you’re comfortable operating the machine. You might want to read up on snowmobiling before you arrive, just to have a head start.

The speed depends on the weather and ground conditions, as well as the level of experience and confidence of your group. Your tour guide is experienced at setting the right pace. If you’re an adrenaline junkie and would prefer some faster paced snowmobile action, check out the Glacier Rush tour!

If you make a booking for two people, you’ll share a snowmobile. You can both take a turn at driving it as long as you both bring a valid international driver’s license. If you book as a single traveler (or book a party with an odd number of people) you will need to pay an up-charge, which is the “single rider fee.” You can find this in the booking sidebar on the tour page. If you pay the single rider fee, you will have a snowmobile all to yourself.

Yes, you’ll be provided with a set of warm overalls, a balaclava, helmet, and gloves.

You’ll want to dress in warm layers for your tour. You should have a base layer of thermal fleece, a warm sweater and pants, wool socks, and good winter boots. Bring extra layers if you get cold easily! Remember that you’ll be on a glacier, surrounded by snow, in our infamously changeable Icelandic weather…so there’s always the possibility that you could get wet.

Sorry, we don’t recommend that pregnant women participate in the snowmobile tours for safety reasons.

Yes…Iceland’s glaciers are here year-round, which means you can have your snowmobiling experience no matter the season!

That depends on which tour you choose. Since most snowmobile tours are on top of glaciers, you will get the chance to explore the glacial features up close, and enjoy incredible panoramic views of the surrounding areas as well.

You have several exciting options. You can go snowmobiling on Vatnajokull, Europe’s largest glacier. You can also go on Langjökull, Europe’s second-largest glacier. (Yes, we’re well-endowed with large glaciers here in Iceland!) Or, you could opt for a tour on the Mýrdalsjökull glacier, in southern Iceland near Vík. If you’re up north, you could try a snowmobile tour around the area of Lake Myvatn. Check out all the different snowmobile tours to find the one that’s just right for you, and if you need any help choosing, just contact us!

The minimum age for participating in a snowmobile tour depends on the tour operator, with some allowing riders as young as 5 or 6! Other faster-paced tours are only for adults. Please check the tour page for information about age limits for your specific tour.

Why book a snowmobile tour?

Because this will become one of your most exhilarating memories from your trip! You’ll explore glacial features up close on Langjökull, Mýrdalsjökull, or Vatnajökull. Whether you want a leisurely full day expedition or the major thrills of an action-packed hour-long ride, we have the right tour for you.
